Does the Roman Catholic Church Pray to Lucifer?

A Critical Analysis of the Exsultet, by Helena Lehman

I have been asked if the Roman Catholic Church is actually singing or praying to Lucifer or the Devil in their hymn called the “Exsultet”, which is sung or recited at Easter Vigil Masses. This is because there are two instances of the Latin word “Lucifer” that appear in one paragraph of the hymn. After researching this hymn, I found that it is supposedly dedicated to Yahshua or Jesus Christ our Savior, but there are several clues within the hymn that this may not be the case at all. Let me explain what I found out that leads me to say this.

First of all, I found out that the Latin word that can mean “shining one”, “light bearer”, or “morning star” in connection to the planet Venus is “Lucifer”, and Yahshua or Jesus was called “the bright and Morning Star” in Revelation 22:16. This title for Yahshua is also implied in 2 Peter 1:19 and Revelation 2:28. Furthermore, the Greek word “Christos” or “Christ” is not a name but a title that means “Anointed”, which is, in turn, taken from the Hebrew word “Mashiach” or “Messiah”, which also means “Anointed”. In ancient times, kings and priests were anointed with costly oils as a sign of their authority and office. So the word “Christ” can mean anyone who is viewed as a messiah, priest or king, rather than being a reference to Yahshua or Jesus alone.

Now this is where my quest to discover what the Exsultet Hymn is really saying gets interesting. According to Wikipedia, the Exsultet is sung over a candle as it is carried into the Church sanctuary, and the candle is meant to represent the light of Christ shining in the darkness. This long hymn ends with an enigmatic paragraph containing the word “Lucifer” not once, but twice in relation to “Christ”, but not specifically to the Christ or Messiah that is Yahshua or Jesus. According to Wikipedia, the English translation of the portion of the Exsultet that mentions Lucifer appears below:

“Therefore, O Lord,
we pray you that this candle,
hallowed to the honour of your name,
may persevere undimmed,
to overcome the darkness of this night.
Receive it as a pleasing fragrance,
and let it mingle with the lights of heaven.
May this flame be found still burning
by the Morning Star:
the one Morning Star who never sets,
Christ your Son,
who, coming back from death's domain,
has shed his peaceful light on humanity,
and lives and reigns for ever and ever.
Amen.”

In particular, I now want to focus on a portion of the above paragraph from the Exsultet. Please note that I have included some of the Latin phrases from which the English translation was derived in parentheses for clarification. Here is the section of the Exsultet that is of the most interest:

“May this flame be found still burning
by the Morning Star (Lucifer):
the one Morning Star (Lucifer) who never sets,
Christ your Son (Christus Fílius tuus),
who, coming back from death's domain,
has shed his peaceful light on humanity...”

Knowing that "Morning Star" can be a reference to Yahshua or Jesus, the wording of this hymn suggests that it is dedicated to Him due to the addition of the word “Christ”. Nonetheless, the word Christ is non-specific. In addition, “Lucifer”- as an epithet for the Devil - was also connected to the King of Babylon, and by association, with Satan himself in the Bible's book of Isaiah, Chapter 14, where it says:

“How you are fallen from heaven,
O Lucifer, son of the morning!
How you are cut down to the ground,
You who weakened the nations!
13 For you have said in your heart:
‘I will ascend into heaven,
I will exalt my throne above the stars of God;
I will also sit on the mount of the congregation
On the farthest sides of the north;
14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds,
I will be like the Most High.’
15 Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol,
To the lowest depths of the Pit.”

That is why many have pointed to the wording of the Exsultet hymn as a hint that the Catholic Church may see Lucifer or the Devil as their “christ” or anointed savior. Unfortunately, the English translation of this enigmatic Latin prayer or hymn could certainly be interpreted that way, but no one really knows for certain if that is how it is interpreted in the higher echelons of the Roman Catholic Church.

It also does not help to exonerate the Catholic Church in that there are a couple more disturbing clues that this hymn may be dedicated to a christ or messiah other than Jesus or Yahshua. In that final stanza or paragraph of the Exsultet, for example, there is a reference to “this flame” that is “still burning”, and we are supposed to take this as a reference to Yahshua as the “great light” shining in the darkness in Matthew 4:16 and Isaiah 9:2, although the Gospel of Mark, Chapter 9, verses 43 and 45 refers to Hell as “the fire that shall never be quenched”. Furthermore, this stanza in the Exsultet refers to “death's domain”, which is a reference to the place that Yahshua or Jesus avoided remaining in by being resurrected from the dead. It is therefore a reference to Hades or Hell, where the Devil - as the instigator of, or catalyst behind human death - traditionally was believed to rule and reside.

Another VERY troubling thing that I found out about this Catholic Prayer in Latin is the Exsultet reference to “the Morning Star that never sets”. As far as I know, the only part of the sky that never sets anywhere in the world north of the Earth's Equator (making it visible year-round to all the most populated areas of the world) is the sky above Earth's northern polar regions. There, the portion of the sky that never sets literally appears to revolve around the North Star called Polaris, which is framed by the gigantic, serpentine constellation called Draco the Dragon. To follow what I am saying in regard to the Gospel in the Stars about Yahshua, please refer to the graphic taken from my book “The Language of God in Prophecy” above this paragraph, which depicts the spiritual meaning of the constellation Draco in relation to other near-by constellations.

This malevolent serpent constellation called Draco signifies Satan's usurpation of God's reign over the Earth, and it wraps around Ursa Minor, where the current North Star Polaris is located. What's more, several thousand years ago, the Pole Star or “star that never sets” was actually “Thuban”, a star within Draco the Dragon. Also troubling is the fact that Draco is a Star Gospel symbol meant to depict the Red Dragon in Chapter 12 of the Book of Revelation - the same Red Dragon or Scarlet Beast that Mystery Babylon - or the Roman Catholic Church - is riding upon in Revelation, Chapter 17:
Revelation 12:3-4 ~ “And another sign appeared in heaven: behold, a great, fiery red dragon having seven heads and ten horns, and seven diadems on his heads. 4 His tail drew a third of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was ready to give birth, to devour her Child as soon as it was born.”
Revelation 17:1-6 ~ “Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and talked with me, saying to me, “Come, I will show you the judgment of the great harlot who sits on many waters, 2 with whom the kings of the earth committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth were made drunk with the wine of her fornication.”
So he carried me away in the Spirit into the wilderness. And I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast which was full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. 4 The woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls, having in her hand a golden cup full of abominations and the filthiness of her fornication. 5 And on her forehead a name was written:
MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT,
THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS
AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS
OF THE EARTH.
6 I saw the woman, drunk with the blood of the saints and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus. And when I saw her, I marveled with great amazement.”
In particular, note my quote from Revelation Chapter 12, where the Red Dragon is clearly associated with Draco the Dragon because it is a sign that appears in heaven, which is not a reference to the heaven where God dwells, but to the skies surrounding our Earth! In addition, Isaiah Chapter 14 refers to the place where Lucifer wants to dwell as “the mount of the congregation, on the farthest sides of the north”. This is peculiar in that the farthest sides of the North could be a reference to the most northern parts of the Earth in the direction of the North Pole, where the constellation Draco the Dragon can be seen lording it over the sheep pens of God's people denoted by the constellations Ursa Major and Ursa Minor, also known as the Big Dipper and Little Dipper. These star “dippers” were actually seen as two sheep pens in ancient times, and they are therefore tied directly to two groups of sheep, disciples or followers that the Dragon or Satan seeks to destroy.

So this reference to Lucifer as a star that “never sets” could be a reference to Draco or Satan as the Red Dragon or Scarlet Beast connected to the wicked kingdom of the Antichrist and the Harlot Church that helped to form it. Based on the history of the Papacy and the Roman Catholic Church as a persecutor of true Christians and Jews rather than a friend to them, there may be more to this charge that the Pope, Cardinals, Bishops and Priests of the RCC worship Lucifer rather than Yahshua or Jesus than most people imagine.

Of course, my reason for suspecting a Satanic connection to Catholic liturgy is not just based on this one hymn. As an Ex-Catholic, I can tell you much more about the Roman Catholic Church and its heretical practices that mock and deny the true doctrines surrounding biblical Christianity as practiced by the first apostles and disciples in the Church. A good, detailed book in print on the subject is Dave Hunt's "A Woman Rides The Beast"which is available at Amazon.com, as well as my own book at Amazon: "The Language of God in Humanity", which does much to demolish the false teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
